Warehouse Tasks

Warehouse tasks manage all physical activities in the warehouse including putaway, replenishment, cycle counts, and custom tasks. This guide covers task creation, assignment, and tracking.

Overview

Task management enables you to:

  • Create and assign warehouse tasks
  • Track task progress and completion
  • Manage task priorities
  • Handle task exceptions
  • Monitor worker productivity
  • Optimize task distribution

Accessing Tasks

Navigate to Warehouse → Tasks to access task management.

Auto-Generated Tasks

System creates tasks automatically:

Putaway Tasks:

  • Triggered by goods receipt
  • System suggests location
  • Based on putaway rules

Replenishment Tasks:

  • Triggered by low stock
  • Monitors pick locations
  • Based on min/max levels

Pick Tasks:

  • Triggered by pick waves
  • Grouped by location
  • Optimized path

How-To Guides

How to Create Warehouse Tasks

Putaway Task

  1. Goods received at dock
  2. System generates putaway task:
    • From: Receiving dock
    • To: Suggested bin (based on rules)
    • Item and quantity
  3. Assign to worker
  4. Worker moves stock
  5. Scan confirmation
  6. Task complete

Transfer Task

Move stock between locations:

  1. Go to Warehouse → Tasks → New Transfer
  2. Select:
    • From location
    • To location
    • Item
    • Quantity
    • Reason
  3. Create task
  4. Worker executes move
  5. Confirm at destination

Replenishment Task

Restock pick faces:

  1. System detects low stock
  2. Identifies source location
  3. Creates replenish task
  4. Worker picks from bulk
  5. Delivers to pick face
  6. Confirms quantity

How to Assign Tasks to Workers

Manual Assignment

  1. Open task
  2. Click Assign
  3. Select worker from list
  4. Worker receives notification
  5. Task appears in their queue

Auto-Assignment

Configure automatic routing:

By Zone:

  • Workers assigned to zones
  • Tasks route to zone worker

By Skill:

  • Match task requirements
  • Equipment certifications
  • Experience level

Round-Robin:

  • Equal distribution
  • Load balancing
  • Availability checking

Proximity:

  • Nearest available worker
  • Real-time location
  • Minimize travel

How to Prioritize Tasks

Setting Priority

Factors affecting priority:

  • Ship date urgency
  • Customer importance
  • Item perishability
  • Blocking downstream work

Priority Queue

Workers see tasks in order:

  1. Urgent tasks first
  2. High priority second
  3. Normal by due date
  4. Low as time permits

Dynamic Re-prioritization

Adjust priorities:

  • Rush order comes in
  • Carrier cutoff approaching
  • Stockout prevention
  • Manager override

How to Track Task Completion

Real-Time Dashboard

Monitor all tasks:

  • Active tasks by status
  • Worker assignments
  • Completion rate
  • Exceptions

Task Details

For each task view:

  • Creation time
  • Assignment time
  • Start time
  • Completion time
  • Duration
  • Worker

Progress Updates

Workers update status:

  • Accept task
  • Start task
  • Log progress
  • Complete or report issue

How to Handle Task Exceptions

Common Exceptions

ExceptionCauseResolution
Location blockedAisle obstructionClear or reassign
Item not foundInventory errorInvestigate, adjust
Equipment issueForklift downAssign different
Worker unavailableBreak/absenceReassign task
Weight limitOver capacitySplit task

Exception Handling

  1. Worker reports exception
  2. Task flagged
  3. Supervisor notified
  4. Investigate cause
  5. Resolve or escalate
  6. Resume or reassign

How to Manage Cycle Counts

Cycle Count Setup

Create counting schedule:

  1. Go to Warehouse → Tasks → Cycle Counts
  2. Configure:
    • Locations to count
    • Frequency (daily/weekly/monthly)
    • Count method
    • Tolerance thresholds

Cycle Count Types

TypeMethodUse Case
ABCBy velocityFocus on A items
RandomRandom selectionStatistical sampling
LocationBy zone/aisleSystematic coverage
TriggeredAfter discrepancyInvestigation

Count Process

  1. Count task generated
  2. Assigned to counter
  3. Counter visits location
  4. Counts physical stock
  5. Enters count
  6. System compares to expected
  7. Variance handled

Variance Resolution

When count differs:

  • Within tolerance: Auto-adjust
  • Outside tolerance: Investigate
  • Recount if needed
  • Approve adjustment
  • Update inventory
